As Montpelier and Antwerp warmed up for a Week 1 high school football contest on Aug. 24, Dave Brobston settled into his spot in the press box of Montpelier’s Hobe Krouse Field to call the game for 104.5 WLZZ, a radio station based out of Montpelier.

Kolden Uribes is shooting for greatness
Within the confines of the old school is a gym, where about a decade ago, Aaron Uribes began taking his young son, Kolden, to push him through different basketball drills. Aaron could tell his son had a knack for basketball at a young age, and he wanted to push him to his full potential. “We’d go in there for usually an hour or an hour-and-a-half and go through all his dribbling and shooting drills,” Aaron said.

Brown sisters grow up with Hilltop cross country
Twin sisters Kara and Landrey Brown have been around the Hilltop cross country program for pretty much the entirety of their lives. From the time they were as young as 7 years old, the girls can remember getting out of school and heading to Hilltop’s practices to do their homework or hang out with the team, one which their father Ken has coached for the past 26 seasons.

Former soccer star's triumph in battle with anorexia
To the casual fan seated at DeMartin Stadium for an MSU women’s soccer game in the mid-2000s, Erin Konheim Mandras appeared to be as solid as could be. Good soccer player, great student, unparalleled leader — she had a lot going for her. By the time her career wrapped up at MSU, Mandras left as the program’s all-time leader in assists with 23.

It was 10 years ago that the then-recently retired 62-year-old James E. Cummings Jr. picked up a basketball and entered the recesses of IM Sports-West for the first time. Hi! My name is Ryan Squanda and I'm a teacher at Waterford Kettering High School, as well as the former sports editor at The Bryan Times in Bryan, Ohio, a small town tucked up in the very northwest corner of the state.

Welcome to my online portfolio, which showcases some of my best journalism work.

I'm a 2016 graduate of Michigan State University's School of Journalism, where I was a sports reporter and editor for the school newspaper, The State News.

In addition to that, I'm a two-time Ohio APME award-winner, a two-time SPJ Region 4 Mark of Excellence finalist and the second-place finisher in the 2014 Amy Foundation Writing Awards.
